SPF, which stands for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail security system, that is employed to verify if an e-mail message was sent by a certified server. Using SPF protection for a domain will prevent the counterfeiting of email addresses created with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this attribute for a domain name generates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP addresses of the servers which are allowed to send emails from mail boxes using the domain. The moment this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. When a new email message is sent, the first DNS server it uses checks whether it comes from an approved server. In the event it does, it is sent to the destination address, however if it does not originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it's discarded. Thus nobody will be able to mask an email address to make it appear as if you're e-mailing spam. This approach is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Website Hosting

When you host your domains in a shared website hosting account with us and we manage the e-mails for them, you'll be able to activate SPF protection for them with several clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is available in a section of its own where you're able to see which domain names are currently protected. For the ones that aren't, you can activate the SPF protection solution and configure numerous things during the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your email addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, as well as to create a rule that emails can be sent only if your domain names include our MX records. The last option is the most secure one, but you can use it if we handle the e-mail addresses for your domain names and you're not using another email provider. The newly created records will be activated within 24 hours and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an e-mail using your email addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes as standard with our semi-dedicated servers, provides you with an incredibly user-friendly interface to activate the SPF security service for any domain that you host in your new account. A couple of clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia are enough for that and you'll only have to enter the hostname and the IP address of the mail server that will be allowed to send messages from your e-mails. In case the emails are handled by us and not by some other supplier, you are able to raise the security level even more and enable an option for all the outgoing e-mail messages to be sent only if your domains include our MX records. This option will give you better control and it'll eliminate any chance of anyone faking your emails with the objective of spamming or scamming people. It is not applicable when just your web site is hosted on our state-of-the-art cloud website hosting platform, while your e-mail addresses are managed by some other provider. If you aren't sure what options to select, our tech support team will help you 24/7.
